If that weren't enough, she even arrived early, completely solo, and texted to say she’d grab us a table. this morning to make the three-hour drive from her sleepy Western Massachusetts home to Manhattan, where she parked her car (an extraordinary feat in itself) across the street from the west side restaurant where we’d meet. I don't think it's a bad album but it definitely has confirmed some of my fears about what Macklemore could turn into.Mary Lambert woke up at 6 a.m.

Of course there's still the social commentary though which I love, Macklemore seems like an "outsider looking in or an insider looking out?" Some of his songs capture how he is overwhelmed and confused about his new found fame, which seems pretty down to Earth and stops him from being too preachy. There is definitely some of that on this album, cheap tricks like "Dance off" which I can't listen to without laughing at the intro at how absurd it is, Macklemore has always made funny and silly songs parodying mainstream music but songs like this aren't really parodies in a witty way, they just seem dumb to me. So when I came upon Thrift Shop by way of an Electro Swing remix (which in turn was from a cover version by an old time swing bang), I lucked out in finding such an amazing artists who not only rhymes about things I can understand but has a refreshing way about doing so that doesn't turn me off. Far too much of it seems to me to be about subjects that I either disagree with (Guns, Hoes, etc), about shocking the listener or trivialise things that shouldn't be.

Accompanying the release will be a World Tour that starts in the US at intimate, legendary venues such as The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The eclectic, raw, and emotional album is an honest look into the soul of two artists who "needed time to be human again." It also marks the official release of the stirring "Kevin", previously performed on the American Music Awards, and featuring Grammy nominated soul crooner Leon Bridges. "What I couldn't find in a hotel room, on the road or in Seattle, I found in the middle of nowhere" says Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty. The long awaited follow-up to the acclaimed debut LP The Heist, This Unruly Mess I've Made was largely recorded over the course of a year in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest.
